Cougars End Dragons Winning Streak

Dayton, Ohio—The Kane County Cougars built a 9-0 lead over the first three innings and coasted to a 13-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.  The Dragons saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end as Kane County extended their own winning streak to eight straight games.

Dayton fell to 9-4 on the season with the loss while Kane County improved to 11-3.

Kane County started pitcher Daury Torrez (2-0) tossed eight strong innings for the win, allowing just two hits and one run with one walk and four strikeouts.  He retired the first 16 batters of the game and did not allow a hit until Beau Amaral’s two-out single in the sixth inning.

Kane County scored one run in the first inning, four in the second, four in the third, and one more in the fourth to lead 10-0.  Will Remillard, who entered the game only 2 for 19 on the season, went 4 for 5 with five runs batted in.  Jacob Rogers added three hits scored twice.  Daniel Lockhart had two hits and scored four runs.

Dragons starting pitcher Amir Garrett (0-2) had a rough night.  He left the game after the first six batters reached base to begin the second inning and was credited with one inning pitched, allowing eight hits and five runs with one walk and one strikeout to suffer the loss.  The Dragons team earned run average ballooned from 1.73 to 2.52 on the year as they allowed 12 earned runs on 19 hits.  Dragons relievers allowed seven earned runs after giving up only six over the first 12 games of the season.

The only Dayton run of the night came in the seventh inning when Sebastian Elizalde tripled to the right field corner with one out and scored on Phillip Ervin’s ground out to third.

The Dragons host Kane County at Fifth Third Field again on Friday at 7:05 p.m. (EDT).  Nick Travieso (1-0, 2.45) will start for Dayton against Kane County’s Juan Paniagua (0-0, 3.38). All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at wone.com and through the Dragons Mobile App.
