6-6 Forward Detwon Rogers Signs With Dayton Basketball
DAYTON - University of Dayton men's basketball coach Archie Miller has announced the latest addition to the UD roster will be Detwon Rogers, a 6-foot-6, 225 pound junior college forward from the College of Southern Idaho. Rogers will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"Detwon is a terrific young man, and is going to really fit into our program nicely," Miller said. "He's driven to get his degree and he wants be around people who can develop him. His style and skill set bring more versatility to what we already have and his ability to play inside-out and shoot the ball should help us immediately.
"Winning is very important to him, and that is a big key for anyone who is inside our program. I'm really excited to add Detwon to our family."
Southern Idaho was ranked as high as No. 2 in junior college rankings during 2013-14 and Rogers was the team's second-leading scorer and leading rebounder. He averaged 16.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in helping the Golden Eagles to a 27-5 record. He shot 51% from the field, 76% from the line and 39% from three-point range.
Rogers did that despite being hampered at the beginning and end of the year with injuries that limited him to 21 games played. After getting back-to-back double-doubles (24/10, 30/11) in early January, Rogers was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot and was limited to three more games the rest of the way.
He was held out a month before playing 17 minutes and scoring nine points against Snow College on Feb. 13. Rogers then had 11 points in eight minutes in a win in the semifinals of the Region 18 tournament on Feb. 28, and two days later tallied eight points in 20 minutes in the season-ending loss in the regional finals.
Rogers was team MVP, first team all-conference and conference player of the year as a senior at New Hanover High School even though he did not play organized basketball until his freshman season. He was also All-Wilmington (NC) Area. He spent a prep year at Body of Christ Christian Academy before enrolling at Southern Idaho before the 2012-13 season. An achilles injury limited him to just nine games.
Dayton finished 2013-14 ranked 18th in the final USA Today Coaches Poll after an exciting run to the NCAA Elite Eight. UD was 26-11 overall. The 26 wins were the third-most in school history. The Flyers return three starters and the bulk of UD's "True Team" 11-man rotation for next year. That includes leading scorer Jordan Sibert (12.2 ppg) and NCAA All-Region selection Dyshawn Pierre (11.2 ppg).
