Wright State Women Drop Overtime Decision to Green Bay 79-72

A Breanna Stucke three forced overtime, but Green Bay took control in the extra period and went on to a 79-72 decision in taking sole possession of the top of the Horizon League women's basketball standings Thursday night at WSU's Nutter Center.
The Raiders jumped out to a 12-4 lead on a Stucke three with 14:22 remaining in the first half and later went up 16-7 on a Tay'ler Mingo jumper at the 12:07 mark, only to see the Phoenix answer with a 17-5 run over the next five minutes to go in front for the first time at 24-21.
Back came WSU, though, with 10 unanswered points, including threes from Kim Demmings and KC Elkins and a driving basket just before the horn by Stucke gave the Raiders a 36-31 halftime advantage.
Wright State shot 43 percent in the opening 20 minutes, including five of 12 three-pointers, while Green Bay shot 36 percent and was just one of 10 from behind the arc.
An Ivory James triple put the Raiders up 43-35 with 15:47 remaining in the second half before the Phoenix tallied eight straight to tie the score.  The two teams were deadlocked seven more times in the second half until Green Bay regained the edge at 67-64 on layups by Breannah Ranger and Megan Lukan.
A Stucke foul shot cut the deficit to two and after Lukan made one of two at the 1:41 mark, Stucke connected on a three from the right corner to tie it at 68 with 1:28 left.
Both teams had their chances down the stretch in regulation, including WSU with 3.4 seconds left, but came away empty, forcing overtime.
In the extra period, Green Bay took conttrol on baskets by Ranger and Kaili Lukan to go up 72-68,  Wright State was able to close to within two on a pair of occasions, including two Mingo free throws with 2:20 left, but would get no closer as the Phoenix scored the final five points of the contest.
Green Bay shot 48 percent in the second half and made all four shots in overtime to finish at 46 percent and was 17 of 23 at the foul line while the Raiders shot just 26 percent after halftime to end up at 33 percent overall and was 21 of 26 at the stripe.  The Phoenix led 38-18 in points in the paint, 23-11 in points off of turnovers and 12-4 in second-chance points.
Demmings and James each had 20 to lead all scorers with Mingo had 14 and Stucke 10 off the bench for WSU.  Tayler Stanton added 14 rebounds.
Green Bay (17-8, 10-3 Horizon), who took over sole possession of first place in the league standings with the win, had five in double figures as Mehryn Kraker had 19, 15 in the second half, while Tesha Buck posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, Ranger a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards off the bench, Sam Zastrow 12 off the bench and Megan Lukan 10.
Wright State (20-8, 9-4 Horizon), now tied for second in the standings with Youngstown State, who lost 73-65 to UIC on Thursday, hosts Milwaukee on Saturday at 2:00.
