Boy Struck by Lightning Released from Hospital, Mom Shares Story
DAYTON-- Nine year old Hunter Wilson is home from the hospital, just 24 hours after surviving a lightning strike inside his own home.
The strike happened in the 200 block of Air Street in Dayton Monday night.
"He had his hand over his chest and he came running through the house and hes like, 'I got hit, I got hit, I got hit! Mom I got struck by lightning!'," said Hunter's mom Sally Wilson, recalling the incredibly rare strike.
She said she didn't believe it at first, and that she was putting dinner on the table for her family when Hunter received the shock of his life.
"He reached up over the sink to go get a cup and all of a sudden you just seen this big strike of light coming through the kitchen window. And it just lit up the house and then all of a sudden you hear this big kaboom!" Sally said.
The phenomenon of lightning striking a person through a closed glass paned window put the family in shock, until Sally snapped back to reality and called 9-1-1.
"It zapped him and he's got marks all over his chest!" she screamed to a 9-1-1 dispatcher immediately after, "Ok, does he seem to be completely alert?" the Dispatcher responded.
Paramedics rushed him to the hospital where doctors watched him closely for 24 hours. Hunter was alive, and alert, but had some marks that resembled Morse code-- small dots in straight lines across his bare chest where the electricity entered his body.
"I think the doctors were just as amazed as we were when it happened," Sally said.
"He's a daredevil though he really is from the time he was about 2 years old," said Hunter's grandfather Jerome Wilson, outside Dayton Children's Hospital while Hunter was still inside being treated.
As of Tuesday night, the Wilson family was still trying to wrap their heads around the remarkable accident.
"It went through the window and didn't even break the window... so that's a really weird thing," Jerome said.
"For him to take a shock like that... it's a proven fact that God does work in mysterious ways," mom Sally echoed.
Doctors fitted Hunter with a heart monitor, which they say he must wear for 2 weeks.
