Stunt Pilot Sean D. Tucker Takes Reporter Wale Aliyu 3,500 Feet In The Air
VANDALIA -- With the air show almost here, veteran pilot Sean Tucker allowed ABC 22 to touch the sky with him.
Wale Aliyu says his nerves were already on high and putting on a parachute didn't help.
"Yesterday you said you were afraid of heights," said Tucker.
"Yeah, I did, didn't I? Maybe not the thing to tell you," said Aliyu.
"Now you're going upside down with me," said Tucker.
Oh my Lord," said Aliyu.
"When we pull away from the Earth, all the blood is going to be leaving your head. The harder I pull, the faster it'll leave your head. We'll start out at 4 Gs," said Tucker, explaining the force of gravity. "If you like this stuff we'll give you 6 Gs. If you really like it, we'll give you 8."
As we start moving in the plane, the nerves turn into excitement.
"I think I can see my house from here," said Aliyu.
"You can see many houses from here," said Tucker.
But Sean brings Aliyu right back down to reality, or should it be up.
"Oh my goodness," said Aliyu after the first flip. "You didn't even prepare me for that one."
"Well, sometimes life is full of surprises," said Tucker.
Sean had plenty of tricks up his sleeve.
"We're going straight up," said Tucker. "Are you doing good with that? Well what goes up must come down!"
Aliyu held his composure, most of the time.
"Oh my Gosh, Sean you are absolutely insane! I don't know how you do this," said Aliyu. "My eyes are in the back of my head. "I need some chap-stick. Where's Napoleon Dynamite when you need him?"
But the best part of flying over the Miami Valley was when Sean gave up the control.
"I've never flown a plane before," said Aliyu.
"Well you're doing it," said Tucker. "Turn around and look."
The pair flew at 3,500 feet and 235 mph.
"Look here at the G meter. You hit five positive Gs. That's five times your body weight," said Tucker. "Then you did two negative Gs when we did those high-speed rolls. You know, I'm very impressed. From you being so afraid of heights to go flying with us yesterday and then flying with me today. Most reporters I don't give them that much because I don't want them to get sick. But I knew you had it in you. I think you have potential so if you don't like the news business you can get into the aviation business. You're even young enough to be an astronaut."
But what they did Thursday won't compare to what you'll see this weekend.
"This weekend we're going twirl flip, tumble through the sky," said Tucker. "We're going to see 10 positive Gs. We're going to see eight negative Gs. The goal is to inspire people in the sky."
Sean Tucker says he trains three times a day. His other secret is eating right, sleeping enough and getting plenty of exercise.
Tucker has been flying in airshows since 1976 and was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2008.
