71-Year-Old Woman Baffled About Rock Thrown Through Window
DAYTON -- Police are trying to figure out who through a brick all the way through an elderly woman's home. This particular incident happened just after midnight Thursday morning in the Crown Point/Residence Park neighborhood, but according police, this is the third time in the last three weeks.
Delores Bostock, 71, will be the first to tell you the rock doesn't go very well with the rest of her decor.
"I thought somebody had broken in because it was so loud and I jumped up," Bostock said. "I was back in my bedroom, but my mother was here recuperating from surgery and she was on the couch. My mom could have gotten hit by the rock or the flying glass and I just hope it doesn't happen to anyone else because you don't know what could happen the next time. She was afraid all night. Both of us were. We were afraid."
A neighbor who chose not to be identified, said Bostock has had many problems with the same young men.
"They broke her windows out of her car several times. They threw bricks through the window," the neighbor said. "For what reason? I don't really know. At least once a month they are harassing her. She is 71 years old. She lives by herself. She's called police several times but by the time the police get here the boys are long gone. I'm really tired of this."
Neighbors tell us they've had so many problems in this neighborhood that some people went as far as to install hidden security cameras near their homes.
"They broke into this house a thousand times," said one neighbor. "They shot that house up. They done several things there. There is nothing for them to do. There's no basketball courts, pools. They will have nothing to do but break into houses. No summer jobs for these kids. Nothing to do there. Just doing stuff to get a kick out of people but they are making the older people afraid to come out of their house."
Now Bostock, who is on a fixed income, will have to pay to replace this $300 window.
"People don't really care about others. People don't care about people and their property, they really don't care," said Bostock. "You feel violated, it's a terrible feeling."
Police are encouraging anyone who saw the culprits last night or any other time to call 937-333-2677 (COPS).
