UPDATE: Miami Valley Heading Into Lull Before Second Round of Snow
MIAMI VALLEY -- We have already seen up to 2-3 inches of snow Sunday morning but we are heading into a lull for many Sunday afternoon.
More snow is positioned off to the west but areas to our far north will not see that much more for the rest of the day.
Snow Taking Over in Montgomery County
MIAMISBURG -- The snow has begun in southern Miami Valley.
We will continue to see the snow clear from the northwest to the southeast. The heaviest snow is mainly south of I-70 with some heavier bands located in southern Miami and Clark counties. Some sleet could mix in but snow is really picking up through Montgomery County.
Wintry Mix Brings Snow to the North, Freezing Rain to the South
MIAMI VALLEY -- Areas south this morning saw some freezing rain and sleet which added a thin layer of ice on most uncovered windshields south of I-70.
Now that mix precipitation is turning over to all snow in Preble, Montgomery and Greene counties. Warren, Butler and Clinton County will have a better chance to see sleet and freezing rain most of the morning until changing over to a snow/sleet mix during the afternoon.
Totals? The first dividing line is right through central Darke and northern Miami counties and continue along the Champaign and Clark border. North of that line will likely see all snow with totals around 2-5 inches with snow getting lighter in the afternoon. South of that line and including all of Montgomery, Greene, and Preble counties that morning mix allowed for a thin layer of ice but snow becomes the norm with around 3-6 inches of snow. Our southern counties of Warren, Butler, and Clinton will see mostly mixed precip with around 2-5 inches of snow and sleet accumulations.
Snow showers become much lighter and scattered passed midnight but the roads will not be ideal tomorrow morning.
Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon issued at 7:47 a.m. Sunday a "Winter Weather Conditions" statement.
"Auglaize County roadways are hazardous, with some blowing and drifting snow," the statement reads. Solomon says the roads will become slippery in spots.
Auglaize typically doesn't issue snow level alerts.
Sheriff Grey also says roads in Mercer County are becoming snow covered and slick. He urges drivers to use caution.
