Edwards Shown on CVS Surveillance Video
SPRINGFIELD -- We are nearing 72 hours since Michaela Bruce, 14, went missing with Mark Edwards, 44, in Clark County.
After hearing from Michaela's mom, ABC 22 News was able to track down Edwards father Friday.
"Stress a lot of stress," said Larry Edwards.
He says he can't believe that his son has been in the news for the last 5 months.
"I was just blown away," said Larry. "I didn't know what to think. At first I didn't want to believe it. He never exhibited anything like that to me."
"I have a feeling maybe she had changed her hair color to black," said Michaela's mom in an interview Thursday.
Turns out she was right. The Clark County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video Friday of who they say is Mark Edwards entering the CVS at 2565 East Main Street in Springfield, where he is said to have purchased black hair dye.
It is suspected that 14-year-old Michaela Bruce, who is suspected to be with Edwards, might be using the hair dye to change the color of her blonde hair.
The suspect is seen in the video (which is seen in the story in slow-motion to better show the suspect) wearing a camouflage coat, a light-colored toboggan cap with two dark-colored stripes, and blue jeans.
Bruce is described in a 5-foot-2 and 110 pounds, with blue eyes. She has braces on her teeth, with blue bands.
"We believe they were in route back to the motel so use the hair color and that's when we attempted to stop them," said Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly.
The two fled on foot after a flat tire without the hair dye, but police say they may have purchased more. The search team which now includes the FBI are looking nationwide.
"I know the first 48 hours are very important but I have reached out to the FBI, US marshals and every resource that is available build a team that make sure it's comes to a peaceful resolution," said Kelly.
"If he hears this, turn yourself in and let the girl go," said Larry.
We did check back Friday at the home of Michaela Bruce to see how her mother Tammy is holding up on day three. It's obviously still very tough for her. She says she's actually spent a lot of time fielding calls from everyone from the sheriff to CNN who has called her a couple times. Today her family started making T-shirts and flyers that they will spread around town. They all have one message: bring Michaela home safe.
