Cruiser Cam Video Released of OVI Bus Driver

SPRINGBORO -- New information on a school bus driver charged with drinking and driving a school bus with kids on board. On the cruiser cam video, the bus driver admits to drinking seven beers the night before she was arrested. Police say Sherry Callahan, 52, still had an illegal level of alcohol in her body when she was driving her morning bus route. Police pulled her over for driving irradically with three special needs kids on board.

The video shows Callahan performing a series of field sobriety tests. The officer then puts her in the back of his cruiser for a breathalyzer. She blew a .05, which is over the legal limit for commercial vehicle drivers. The officer arrested Callahan, also saying he could smell alcohol on her breath.

Callahan told the officer she never drives drunk. However she did say she stayed up late, drinking, the night before.

The following is an exchange between the officer and Callahan.

Officer: If you could tell me all of what you had to drink. Was it alcohol, was it beer?

Callahan: It was beer, yeah.

Officer: What kind of beer?

Callahan: Milwaukee, Old Milwaukee Best Light

Callahan was charged with OVI, endangering children, and two alcohol charges related to driving a commercial vehicle. All are misdemeanors.

EARLIER -------------------------------------------------------------

SPRINGBORO -- We have police cruiser cam video just released Friday of the Springboro school bus driver charged with driving a special needs bus while under the influence of alcohol.

Sherry Callahan, 52, was arrested last month while she was picking up special needs students before school. There were three kids on the bus when she was pulled over.

The video shows Callahan getting off the bus to perform field sobriety tests. A driver called 911 telling dispatchers she ran him off the road.

The officer eventually put Callahan in the back of the cruiser and gives her a breathilizer test. She blew a .05 which is over the legal limit for commercial vehicle drivers. When the officer first questioned her though, Callahan said she had not been drinking any alcohol.

The following is the exchange between Callahan and the officer after she got off the bus.

Officer: Do you know what this is about?

Callahan: You said I ran someone out the road?

Officer: That's what they're saying.

Callahan: No, no.

Officer: No?

Callahan: No. I have an aide on the bus that can tell you no.

Officer: They thought you might have been intoxicated. That's why I'm here.

Callahan: No. (Chuckling)

Officer: No alcohol?

Callahan: No.

Officer: Nothing to drink at all?

Callahan: No. Pop, Diet Pepsi. (Chuckling)

The officer told Callahan he could smell alcohol on her breathe. He arrested her for OVI and endangering children.

Coming up tonight on ABC 22 at 11, hear the additional exchanges between the officer and Callahan, and find out if she ever admitted to drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel of the school bus.
