Beavercreek PD Employees Honored for Life-Saving Efforts

BEAVERCREEK -- Five Beavercreek Police Department employees received awards from Miami Valley Crime Stoppers on Wednesday, December 11.

Sgt. Scott Molnar, Officer Tim Lammert and Officer Brian Cline each received a Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award and Communication Operators Tracy Crotty and Jennifer Kochaney each received a Communication Operator of the Year award.  All of these employees were recognized for being instrumental in saving the life of a 60-year old female in full cardiac arrest.

On Sunday June 30, 2013, Officer Lammert was dispatched to North Fairfield Road just south of Pentagon Blvd. on the report of a female in full arrest / not breathing. Her husband called 911 while driving his wife to Soin Medical Center, but when he realized she needed immediate assistance, he proceeded to stop in the roadway on North Fairfield Road in front of Max and Ermas Restaurant. Communications Operator Crotty handled the initial call and gave lifesaving instructions over the phone to the husband, who administered CPR to his wife while she was still in the vehicles passenger seat.  Communications Operator Kochaney dispatched officers and medic crews while Communications Operator Crotty remained on the phone to continue relaying CPR instructions to the husband.

Officers Tim Lammert and Brian Cline and Sgt. Scott Molnar all arrived within three minutes of the dispatch.  Molnar retrieved the AED from his cruiser while Officers Lammert and Cline prepared the patient to be shocked.  The AED was utilized and the patient was removed from the vehicle and placed on the pavement where officers continued administering CPR until medics arrived.

Medics later conveyed to Molnar that the emergency room doctor stated the patient had experienced ventricular fibrillation and the use of the AED along with the continued CPR saved her life.

According to a Beavercreek Police Department statement, the teamwork efforts of Molnar, Lammert, Cline, Crotty and Kochaney should be commended. Everyone involved played a major role in saving this womans life.

As a result of this incident, the husband has spearheaded a campaign to raise the funds needed to outfit all of our front line marked vehicles with AEDs.

The husband witnessed firsthand this emergency event unfold and has repeated many times that the combined efforts of the officers and the communication operators undoubtedly saved his wifes life.  This claim has been confirmed by his wifes medical professionals. Had our response not have been as quick as it was, she very likely would not have survived.
