Tecumseh Schools Bus Driver Accused of Raping 11-Year-Old Boy

Continued Coverage:
Adam Overholser, 21,  faced a judge Thursday in Clark County.  He is accused of raping  an 11 year old Tecumseh City Schools student.

According to  investigators,  Overholser,  a bus driver  for the district,  befriended the student who rode his bus.

Detectives said Overholser sexually abused the boy from May through September of this year.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office began their investigation this week when the boys mother made the report.

"It's very, very shocking." Renee Stacey said. She and her three kids live  across the street from Overholser in New Carlisle.

"That is scary. My kids are out here playing all the time.  There are a lot of kids that live around here."
"God it's a good thing he is gone.  This would've been a bad place  for somebody like that ." Neighbor Janet Addeo added.
Detectives said none of the sexual assaults  occurred on school grounds or during school hours.
Tecumseh City Schools said  they  performed  background checks on Overholoser before he  was hired,  which showed no concerns.
Stacey's  kids go to Tecumseh City Schools and  ride the bus.  She said as parents, you should be able to  trust  the driver behind the wheel
"I want my kids to be safe. I put them on the bus everyday, and  hope they are okay."

Tecumseh City Schools Superintendent, Brad Martin,  said Overholser  was  immediately removed from his duties and arrested on Wednesday on school grounds.

NEW CARLISLE -- A 21-year-old school bus driver is behind bars today after being accused of raping an 11-year-old boy.

Clark County Sheriff's deputies say Adam J. Overholser of 211 Pike St., New Carlisle, developed a friendship with the child while driving the bus for Tecumseh Local Schools.

"As a result of the friendship, the defendant began engaging in a pattern of sexual behavior with the child," a Sheriff's Office media release states. Deputies say the incidents occurred from May to September 2013.

The child's mother contacted deputies, who began an investigation.

According to deputies, there were no reports of sexual behavior on school grounds or involving school property, however, according to court records, the incidents occurred at locations in Clark, Miami and Champaign counties.

Investigators recorded a phone call involving Overholser, who then, court records say, admitted to some sexual acts with the boy. He was arrested Wednesday and faces one count of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition. His arraignment is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today.

Tecumseh School officials say Overholser has been suspended from his job.

The Tecumseh Local School District issued a statement following Overholser's arrest, saying it performed two criminal background checks on Overholser at the time of his hiring, which is standard procedure for the district.

The school says Overholser's records and work history showed no prior concerns.
