Former Springboro School Bus Driver Faces a Judge
SPRINGBORO -- A former Springboro schools bus driver faces a judge for the first time.
Sherry Callahan is facing several charges after police say she was driving a school bus while under the influence of alcohol.
"Excuse me, excuse me," said the reporter.
We tried to talk to Sherry Callahan as she walked into court Monday night.
"Excuse me, I'm so sorry to bother you," said the reporter, "you can walk away."
That's the only response we got from her and the two women walking with her.
Callahan is accused of driving a special needs school bus while under the influence of alcohol.
She was arrested nearly two weeks ago.
Police gave her a breathalyzer test, and she blew a .05, which is under the legal limit of .08.
"Enter a plea of not guilty was set up for today," said Magistrate Jeff Kirby.
Callahan stood before the magistrate, and pled not guilty.
"There was an aide on the bus with her that indicated that to the school board and to police that nothing unusual happened that morning," said Nick Graman, Callahan's Attorney.
Callahan's attorney, Nick Graman, stood beside her in court.
He says the 911 call made to police about Callahan driving erratically was fraudulent, and was a way for someone to get revenge against Callahan..
"There was some motivation to fabricate that story," said Graman, "but she still blew a point zero five?," asked the reporter, "That's correct and we're still investigating that as well."
Graman insists his client doesn't deserve to be facing any charges.
"We believe that there are people out there who have motivation to try to see Miss Callahan get in trouble or have legal issues arise and try to jeopardize her position," said Graman.
Next up in this case, a pre-trial hearing.
A date for that is expected to be set on Tuesday.
Callahan did resign from her position.
She's facing six charges, including OVI and child endangering.
If convicted, she could get up to six months in jail and a thousand dollar fine for each charge.
