Trucker Shot & Killed by Security Guard at Loves Truck Stop
DAYTON -- Love's Travel Stops issued a statement Monday about Sunday's deadly shooting at the new Love's truck stop.
"We are deeply saddened by an incident that occurred at our new location in Dayton, Ohio yesterday involving a Love's customer and a private, third-party security guard. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of our customer. Love's is working closely with law enforcement to investigate the situation and we thank all of our loyal customers for the outpouring of support."
DAYTON -- Police are waiting on more surveillance video to help them piece together a deadly shooting at a new truck stop in Dayton.
The Montgomery County Coroner's Office has identified the truck driver as 48-year-old Goran Sojic of Illinois.
Police say he was shot Sunday night inside the truck stop by a security guard who we have learned is employed with Arrow Security. According to police, the 25-year-old security guard shot Sojic in the chest and arm after he felt threatened by the man.
Dayton Police Lt. Wendy Stiver says Sojic did not have a weapon when he was shot.
"Prior to the incident the security guard told him to leave the store," she said.
After he was asked to leave, the security officer told police, he felt threatened as Sojic made his way to the counter.
"Witnesses told us he was acting erratically and charged at the security guard prior to the shooting," said Stiver.
Police have yet to identify why.
We are learning that the security guard works for Arrow Security -- and, it's license is under Aron Security Inc., located inside a building on Salem Avenue.
We haven't been able to find out much about the company but the state tells us they've been in business since 2011 and they've never had any violations.
Sojic lives in Illinois and is an independent contractor for Universal Trucking. We're told he's of Bosnian descent and there could have possibly been a language barrier Sunday night.
A woman who answered the phone at Sojic's residence said they have no comment on the shooting.
Police tell us they are still waiting on more surveillance video of the shooting from Love's to help piece together the shooting.
DAYTON -- Dayton Police responded Sunday night to a shooting at a truck stop off Interstate 75.
A trucker, believed to be from Illinois, was transported in critical condition to Miami Valley Hospital with a gunshot to his chest and arm.
Police say the man was shot by a security guard inside the Loves Truck Stop off Edwin C. Moses.
We're told that the victim came in acting in an erratic manner.
Police say the man was shot after he made his way toward the counter where the security guard was.
The unidentified security officer says he felt threatened by the customer and that's when he fired shots.
The Loves Truck Stop opened last week. Police say they had several meetings with the owner prior to building.
"It's a situation where we told them it would be appropriate for them to have security just because of its location to the freeway," said Dayton Police Lt. Mark Ponichtera.
Police would not say if the victim had a weapon on them. They are reviewing surveillance footage to try to piece together the events of the incident.
DAYTON -- Police say a person was shot by a security guard at the Hardees on Edwin C. Moses. Officers confirm that a man had a confrontation with an employee and the security guard shot him.
Right now crime scene investigators and homicide detectives are on the scene.
The victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. No word on their injuries at this time.
