Turner to Seek Federal Funding for Moraine Site
MORAINE -- Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) says he will meet on Monday with local economic development officials for a roundtable discussion and to receive an update on the efforts to recruit new businesses to Moraine.
Turner says he continues his efforts in Congress to ensure that the Dayton area is at the forefront of conversations with companies looking to expand or relocate their business.
Turner sent a letter to the Department of Commerce on Monday requesting aide for the former Delphi site in Moraine. In his letter, Turner reminded the Commerce department of their efforts to save the building that was at risk of being demolished. Because of those efforts, the building now represents a viable site for redevelopment.
I expressed my concern to both Commerce and Treasury that the Plant might be sold to a scrap dealer seeking to demolish the facility. I asked for the support of Commerce and Treasury to preserve and redevelop it for future use and job creation.
Understanding the facilitys value to the community for future economic development opportunities, both agencies worked with me to ensure that Plant was saved, Turner said.
Turner encouraged the department to provide additional assistance for redevelopment.
It is my hope that our partnership on this front will continue and that you will remain committed to aiding the redevelopment of the facility by providing resources, assistance, funding and other means of support available through your agency to the community and future tenants, Turner wrote in his letter.
