Key to Ditching Cellulite

UNDATED -- Hate that dimply skin around your tummy, butt or thighs?  Most people hate cellulite, but there are ways to get rid of it.

We've talked to a local doctor and a trainer and have discovered six exercises to help rid you of it:

  • Stairmaster
  • Step-ups
  • Push Ups
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Burpees

The key to these exercises is interval training, which suggests 20 seconds of workouts followed by a 10-second pause.  Trainer Lisa Strom recommends repeating this for four minutes.

"With high-intensity interval training your metabolism stays high for the next 24-36 hours, with steady-state cardio ... your rate for burning calories only lasts 4-6 hours," says Dr. Rob Kominiarek.

The key to cutting cellulite isn't only in a workout, though.  According to Dr. Kominiarek, "You can work out all you want, but when it comes to cutting cellulite, there are certain things you should eat."

The next time you're at the store, pick up some black beans, apples, blueberries, raspberries, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, quinoa, spinach, hummus and grapefruit. These foods are all part of a low-glycemic diet.  In fact, the foods help balance blood-glucose levels so you can consistently use fat as energy.

What you eat counts for more than 70% of weight loss and cellulite destruction.

"Bad fats, fried saturated food, cakes, cookies, things like that contribute to enlarging fat cells, and when you enlarge they get bigger and pull down on the skin and you get a dimply, cottage cheese type effect," says Dr. Kominiarek.
