UPDATE: Body in Vandalia Park Identified
VANDALIA -- The Montgomery County coroner has confirmed the body found at Art Van Atta Park in Vandalia is Aria Spradling.
The Dayton Police Department told us dental records were used to determine the identity.
It is unknown at this time how Spradling died.
VANDALIA -- We have new information about the body found at Art Van Atta Park in Vandalia.
The Montgomery County coroner says they have completed the autopsy, but they are not releasing the woman's identity or the cause of her death.
However, today we spoke to the mother of Aria Spradling, the Eaton woman who has been missing since September.
Her mom tells us the clothing found at the scene matched what Aria was last wearing. She also says the tattoo on the woman's arm matches her daughter's.
VANDALIA -- Police are investigating a dead body that was found at the Art Van Atta Park off Dixie Drive in Vandalia Monday morning.
Vandalia Police Lieutenant Dan Swafford tells us the body has most likely been there for several weeks, "the body is pretty badly decomposed. The clothing the person had on, appears to be woman's clothing just by the color," he said.
Police tell us the body was found by county workers working on a sewer line.
"They followed the odor and located the body back in the woods," said Lt. Swafford.
Swafford said the Vandalia Police Department don't have any missing persons reports.
The only missing person ABC 22/FOX 45 has reported on in the area is a Dayton woman, Aria Spradling, who went missing from the Harem on Dixie over the summer.
That location is only 4 miles from the park area where the body was located.
Investigators tell us they won't even speculate or comment if it anyone's body.
An autopsy will be done Tuesday morning by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.
Swafford asks if you have any information to call 937-898-5868.
VANDALIA -- Police are investigating after a human body was found this morning in Art Van Atta Park.
Montgomery County employees say they were clearing a sewer line on Kingman Drive near the park when they smelled something coming from the park. They said they walked into the park about 400 feet and discovered the badly decomposing body.
Vandalia Police say the body had on female clothing but the Montgomery County Coroner's Office has not yet confirmed details about the body, including its sex.
Investigators say the body had been there for some time but there was nothing around the body indicating what might have happened.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
