OSP Pumps up Patrols on Gettysburg Corridor
DAYTON - Ohio State Patrol tells us they have teamed up with Dayton Police to crack down on crime along the Gettysburg Corridor.
We're told to battle the high crime rate in the area, more patrols have been added daily to help keep folks safe.
Thursday we went out to the West Dayton neighborhood to see if folks who live there have seen any changes.
Even though we didn't see a single patrol car during our three-hour tour of the area, a local - who didn't want to be on camera - said over the last month he's seen an influx troopers.
"Early in the morning the highway patrol is very active. Later in the evening they are very active again," the Oakridge resident said. "Stopping more people, searching for drugs and everything like that. Mostly I think they're looking for the drugs. It's still a high drug area."
But not everyone we talked to has seen OSP in their neck of the woods.
"No, not on this street," Regis McCollum, resident since '98 answered.
"No, I haven't seen any police," 21-year-old Oakridge resident Lisa Taylor said Thursday.
Even though Lisa Taylor hasn't witnessed the increased efforts, she has noticed some changes.
"We had some people breaking into our cars, and that has completely stopped, so I have to give them credit for that." Taylor said. "I'd like to see them more on Oakridge, more patrols on this street."
"A couple of incidents here where we've had to call the police and they come right out. I think we do a pretty good job of looking out for each other," McCollum added Thursday.
Be sure to tune into ABC 22 News tomorrow when we will be following up with OSP and talking to them directly about their crime detail.
