Local Waiter Charged With Murder
UPDATE: Curtis Gray, 27 is indicted for the murder of Daniel Mooty. Gray, a former waiter at Thai 9 restaurant, is facing murder and felonious assault charges in the stabbing death of Mooty, who was homeless. Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck released details today, saying Mooty was stabbed more than 100 times, and that Gray was found ''hovering over his body'' after the violence on Quitman Street. Gray is due in court on October 22nd. Detectives have not released a motive in the deadly attack.
UPDATE: A local waiter accused of killing a homeless man appeared before a judge Tuesday. Curtis Gray, 27, pleaded not guilty to stabbing Daniel Mooty last week in Dayton behind a vacant home on Quitman Street.
Mooty was a well-known panhandler in the area. Police did find a knife near the scene. Police have not released a motive for the deadly attack.
UPDATE: DAYTON -- A local server at the popular Oregon District restaurant Thai Nine has been charged with murder.
Curtis Gray, 27, was charged in the stabbing death of Daniel Mooty on Quitman Street in Dayton Thursday morning.
Gray has been charged with : One count Purposeful Murder; 2 count Murder while committing Felonious Assault; and 2 ct Felonious Assault.
Dayton police received a 911 from a woman early Thursday morning, who reported hearing a man screaming.
Gray was arrested just minutes after police arrived. Police said he dropped a knife while trying to run away.
So far police have not identified a motive for the murder.

Police said Curtis Gray, 27, stabbed Daniel Mooty, 51, several times early Thursday morning near a vacant home on Quitman Street.
Christy Collins said she was in bed sleeping about 12:45 a.m. when she heard Mooty screaming for help.
"I could hear a gentleman screaming 'somebody help me, call the police, he's killing me' He screamed it over and over again, then I dialed 911." She said.
When police arrived on Quitman, they found Gray still on scene.
"When they got there, they found one male on top of another. He attempted to flee, he climbed a fence and he was apprehended a short distance later." Dayton Police Sgt. Rick Blommel said.
Police said Gray dropped a knife, which officers found near the scene. Detectives are still investigating what sparked the deadly stabbing.
"We have not determined any motive and the suspect is not talking to us."
Those who know the suspect well told ABC 22/ FOX 45, off camera, Gray has been working at Thai Nine for at least 5 years.
They said they are shocked to find out he has been accused of such an awful crime.
Gray has a record in Montgomery County, mostly for traffic violations and one drug charge.
DAYTON -- A suspect is in custody after the body of 51-year-old Daniel Mooty was found in Dayton.
Curtis Gray has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail after he was taken into custody as a possible murder suspect. The 27-year-old was found near the scene when police arrived.
DAYTON -- A homicide investigation is underway after a man's body was found behind a vacant house.
Police were called out to the 300 block of Quitman Street around 1:30 Thursday morning.
Police say the victim was being chased by someone and as he was trying to get away he was screaming for help, saying that someone was trying to kill him.
A neighbor tells us she was sleeping and the victim's cry for help awakened her. She did not see anything because it was so dark, and she did not want to get too close.
Police are still not releasing many details about the victim and the cause of death, but they do tell us he was in his mid 30s and that a weapon was used.
When police arrived, a man was taken into custody to be questioned, but at this point no arrests have been made.
Police tell us they do have a record of the man who is being questioned, but his record does not include any significant crimes.
DAYTON -- A body has been found near a Dayton home in the 300 block of Quitman Street.
Homicide detectives are on scene and were called out about 1:30 Thursday morning.
