City Launches Community Engagement Website
DAYTON -- Dayton residents can now instantly share comments and suggestions about issues and questions related to local government and quality of life on engagedayton.org.
The website allows users to post answers and ideas in response to particular topics presented by the City of Dayton. The site also features opinion polls and opportunities for users to share content via social media and email. City staff members monitor posted remarks, reply to questions and forward suggestions within the City organization for consideration and/or action.
Three topics are currently active on engagedayton.org: 1) how to increase recycling in Dayton; 2) citizen priorities for allocation of general budget funds; and 3) neighborhood group successes. A poll asks citizens about their preferred means of receiving important information from the City of Dayton.
The citys decision to begin this program was inspired by public comments shared during the 2011-12 evaluation of the Citys citizen participation structure and programs. Many residents indicated they wanted easier and faster ways to communicate with the City and other citizens about important issues. Engagedayton.org allows more residents to share their concerns and ideas without attending public meetings, making phone calls or sending letters.
We are very excited about this new way of making City government more accessible and responsive to citizen concerns, said Aaron Sorrell, Director of Daytons Department of Planning and Community Development. Dayton residents, businesses and workers are encouraged to participate.
Engagedayton.org includes a translation feature that allows users to operate the site in dozens of languages. The site was produced by MindMixer, a company that has provided online engagement programs for 400 communities and organizations across the United States. The City of Dayton has a two-year contract with MindMixer to support the operation of engagedayton.org.
