Jenna Parlette Remembered at Wilmington College
WILMINGTON -- The Wilmington College community gathered Thursday to memorialize the life of Jenna Parlette, who died Tuesday after collapsing at a track meet on Saturday.
"She was my other half she's everything I'm not," said her sister Allison Moncheck.
Jenna Parlette's family, her coach and several teammates all had some words to remember the track star.
"She was the type of teammate that said where would you like me to stand so I could cheer for you," said her teammate Sarah Murphy.
Parlette holds the school record in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs in track, and is a five-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference designee in track and cross country. She was named All-Great Lakes Region after the 2012 cross country season, And now her legacy will be even stronger.
"The Wilmington Fall Classic has been called that for 21 years now, but we are going to rename it the Jenna Strong Invitational," said her coach.
Jenna's not just known for her feet, but her heart and ambition.
"Her Instagram said get off off Instagram and start chasing your dream," said Murphy.
That dream turned into a nightmare when she collapsed during a 5k run at a Cross Country meet Saturday.
"She was winning the race," said Murphy. "I crossed the line and no one else was around and I was like I don't know where anyone is right now and then I heard something had happened."
"Campus has been kind of down," said friend Courtney Tucker.
The 20-year-old junior was diagnosed with epilepsy in the sixth grade but never let that slow her down.
"She was strong she didn't let it impact her. But we did noticed some things leading up to it but we had no idea it was going to go this far," said Moncheck.
Now her family and friends try to remain Jenna Strong in memory of a great teammate.
"Great, amazing, she cheered for everyone and then once you finished she would always come by and pat you and tell you you did awesome," said teammate Tricia Steffen.
"All the runners in the race rub but only one will get the prize run in the way to get the prize. Jenna was a wonderful student who left an indelible impression on many who she knew on campus," WC President Jim Reynolds said. "We all grieve for a life lost so early."
Right now designers are creating bracelets for everyone here at Wilmington College. The bracelets will be purple representing epilepsy. And they will all say Jenna Strong.
There will be a service this Saturday at 2:00 PM at Miamisburg middle school Celebrating Jenna's life
Parlette, a graduate of Miamisburg, was described by Terry Rupert, Wilmington College vice president for athletics administration, as a big part of their athletics family and said "she will be profoundly missed."

Obama economists: Rosier picture if budget passed
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama's top economists say the nation is on track to make economic progress over the next two years, but say it would do even better if Congress would enact the additional spending he proposed in his most recent budget. A divided Congress in an election year is not likely to heed that call.
