August 6th Special Election Information

DAYTON -- Voters in about a third of Ohio's counties have special elections on the ballot. The Ohio Secretary of State's office says there are about 28 issues total across 23 counties Tuesday. Of those, 19 are school issues.

Polls open at 6:30 Tuesday morning and close at 7:30 Tuesday evening. Several local counties have issues on the ballot in Tuesday's special election.

Here is a list of the local issues on the ballot:

MONTGOMERY COUNTY:

Huber Heights: Huber Heights City Schools is asking voters to pass an additional $5.95 mill operating levy that would generate nearly $4 million annually and allow the district to restore $1.6 million in programs. School board members lowered the proposed pay to play fee from $750  to $428 per sport under pressure from the parents.

German Township: German township is asking voters to approve a five year .5 mill levy for parks and recreation.

Butler Township: Butler Township is voting on a joint economic development zone and hotel district, to decide if the businesses that are part of the Miller Lane Business District and Miller Lane Hotel District will pay a one percent income and corporate tax. If the issue is approved, the township would create a Joint Economic Development Zone or JEDZ District for that area. There are two ballots associated with this issue, one for the Hotel District and the other for the Business District.

CLARK COUNTY:

Clark-Shawnee: The Clark-Shawnee Local School District has an emergency levy on the ballot will cost $19.37 per month for a home valued at $100,000. The 10-year, 7.59 mills levy request is the same issue voters declined in May. If passed, it will generate nearly $2.5 million a year.

Tecumseh: The proposed tax levy here is for additional money and will provide $3.5 million for the emergency requirements of the school district for a period of five years.  The district is seeking to pass a $12.37 million levy, that would bring in $3.5 million annually and would cost the owner of a $100,000 property, $430 a year.  The district is going to the ballot for the 10th time after being defeated in May by 84 votes. The district will face takeover by the state if the levy isn't approved by 2014.

Northeastern: Northeastern Schools are asking voters to approve a one percent earned income tax on employed residents that would raise $4 million yearly. This does not include pensions, unemployment, interest, dividends, capital gains, rental income, lottery winnings, or income earned by estates.

WARREN COUNTY:

Deerfield Township: Deerfield Township is asking for a four mill replacement levy for police and EMS.

Franklin: Franklin City Schools is asking voters to approve 7.92 mills of additional money to pay current operating expenses. The levy will generate nearly $3.1 million in additional revenue annually and cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $240 a year.

Lebanon: Lebanon Schools is asking voters to approve a five year, 2 mill permanent improvement levy.

SHELBY COUNTY:

Sidney: Sidney City Schools is asking voters to approve a one percent additional income tax to cover current expenses. The money generated from the proposed five year tax levy will collect about $4.77 million per year.

DARKE COUNTY:

Greenville: The Greenville City School District seeks passage of a combination bond and tax issue for the purpose of paying the local share of school construction under the state of Ohio Classroom Facilities Assistance Program. The bonds will provide a principal amount of $45 million, along with a 0.5 mill tax increase.
