Public Reacts to Last Night's Drowning

HUBER HEIGHTS -- People at the Huber Heights Aquatics Center were talking about pool safety.

One mother of five children told ABC 22/FOX 45 that she's surprised to see something like this happen so close to home, in her neighborhood.

"It's up to the parent to make sure the child is within reach and they know where they are at at all times," Priscilla Adkins said. She added that she watches her children regardless of the number of lifeguards at the pool.

Adkins also shared that she would like to see more training exercises with "decoy" children put in place to keep everyone on high alert.

This drowning has sent shock waves across other area pools. Parents at the Kettering Rec Center said it's important to keep an eye on all young children at the pool, no matter how many lifeguards are on duty.

"The Kettering Rec Center seems to be very safe," said mom Amanda Good.

News of the drowning has swept across other area pools, with parents saying their hearts go out to the family.
