Racino Closer To Reality

DAYTON -- Horse racing is a step closer to becoming reality in Dayton.

Penn National Gaming has formally filed for licenses and asked to relocate its Toledo race track to Dayton.

"Hollywood Slots at Dayton Raceway" would be built on 125 acres on the site of the former Delphi plant near Wagner Ford and Needmore roads in North Dayton. The race track would include video lottery terminals and will feature restaurants and bars.

The $125 million racetrack and video lottery terminal facility is expected to create 1,000 new direct and indirect jobs and up to 1,000 construction jobs. In addition to up to 1,500 VLTs, the new property will feature restaurants, bars and other amenities.

Penn National also plans to relocate Beulah Park in Columbus and move it to near Youngstown.

If approved, the Youngstown-area and Dayton racinos will be the third and fourth new Penn National facilities to open in Ohio. The company opened the $320 million Hollywood Casino Toledo on May 29, and construction is near completion on the $400 million Hollywood Casino Columbus, which is expected to open in the fall of this year.
