The National Weather Service advises people in the advisory area to avoid prolonged work in the sun or poorly ventilated areas, to drink plenty of liquids and to try and stay in an air conditioned environment. Children, the elderly and people with chronic ailments are at more of a risk of being effected by heat, warns the National Weather Service. Heat exhaustion, cramps or heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions. Friends, relatives or neighbors should check on people who may be at risk in the affected area.
