National Trail gets 1st win of season, 36-8 over Middletown Christian
NEW PARIS -- National Trail off to an 0-3 start showed little energy
hosting Middletown Christian but the Blazers picked it up and pulled
away for a 36-8 win.
National Trail was looking to improve on last
year's 8-2 mark that led to the program's first playoff appearance but
as head coach Tony Sonsini put it, the team was unable to put together a
full game through three weeks.
Based on how the Blazers started Saturday night it looked like they still wouldn't be able to put it all together.
Middletown Christian took an 8-7 lead after a 4th and 19 turned into a
31 yard touchdown pass followed by Corey Hooker scrambling on a busted
play to convert the two point conversion.
Top 22 selection Garrett
Griffin connected twice with wide receiver Phillip White in the final
2:23 of the 1st half to take a 22-8 advantage to the locker room.
National Trail won 36-8 but the bad news for the Blazers is that it
won't count toward their playoff hopes because Middletown Christian is
not an OHSAA sanctioned team. The Blazers needed a replacement after
Bradford decided not to field a varsity team this year. Middletown
Christian was also coming off a Thursday night win against Ponitz.
