Two Injured in Apartment Fire
MIAMISBURG -- Lightning may be the cause of an apartment fire that has left several people without a home Thursday.

"I couldn't see two feet in front of me, I was choking," said Tammy Perry.

Perry's neighbor woke her up during the early morning on Thursday as she was sound asleep. The blaze burned through two apartment buildings and a vacant home around two a.m.

Fire officials say there weren't any working smoke detectors inside the apartment complex.

Two people were treated for burns and one was treated for smoke inhalation.

Clean-up crews spent Thursday afternoon going through charred debris outside the burned apartment complex in downtown Miamisburg.

The fire has put four families in an American Red Cross Shelter at the First Baptist Church in Miamisburg.

Brittany Geiger is one of those fire victims staying at the shelter she said she never thought she'd find herself in this situation.

"Somebody came beating on the door, and I answered, and she said get out of the house, it's on fire," said Geiger.

The apartment complex had several smoke detectors, but fire officials say they weren't working.
   
During an investigation after a storm like last night, fire officials will look to see if a building has any lightning rods to have stopped the building from being hit.The apartment complex, did not.

"Lightning rods are made to disperse the potential charge of lightning away from the building so it doesn't go through the building, but goes to a natural ground," said Miami Valley Fire Department Lieutenant, Dale Fahrney.

MIAMISBURG-- Two people are taken to the hospital following an apartment fire in Miamisburg.

Flames broke out at around 2:00 Thursday morning at the building on 54 South Main Street.  Firefighters called mutual aid from West Carrollton, Moraine, and Germantown.

Investigators aren't sure yet what started the blaze, but they are not ruling out lightning as a cause.  The American Red Cross will be helping displaced families.Two Injured in Apartment Fire
