UPDATE: Sheriff Says Grube Case Never Went Cold; Two Suspects Charged
CELINA -- Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced today that a second suspect has been charged in connection with the 2011 murder of Robert and Colleen Grube of Fort Recovery.

Trevin Sanders, 18, of Union City, Ohio, is facing 27 criminal counts, including two counts of aggravated homicide as well as kidnapping, aggravated robbery and burglary.

He was 17 at the time of the murders. His charges were filed in Mercer County Juvenile Court.

Grey is seeking to extradite him from Michigan City, Ind., to face charges.

The sheriff said the Grube murder case was never "cold." He said it often was winding and curving but work was done on it every days since their deaths.

The investigations, which remain active, have been aided by the state Bureau of Criminal Identification, Darke County, Ohio, and Randolph County, Indiana, authorities and even Kentucky and Tennessee agencies played a role.

Grey said they followed up on all 88 tips they received. They issued 179 court-ordered subpoenas, 329 interviews of 268 people over the 16 months.

The sheriff said they are still asking for help from the public, because the investigation is ongoing.

Rhodes made his initial court appearance Tuesday morning in Mercer County.

Grey made the announcement of Sanders' charge at a 9 a.m. Wednesday press conference, without taking questions from the media.

Reporter Kavontae Smalls will have more from Grey's press conference and reaction from Mercer County residents throughout the day.

Sheriff Jeff Grey met with the family to tell them about the arrests made for the double murder. The father and daughter were brutally murdered in November 2011. They were found bound with duct tape and shot dead inside their Fort Recovery home.

Throughout the investigation we learned the murders were the result of a home invasion.

People in Mercer County, like Kenny Maples of Celina, say they are relieved.

"It'll be interesting to see what really happened and what would cause someone to take those steps. You wouldn't think a person would go to that extreme but something had to cause it," said Maples.

Sheriff Grey will hold a press conference Wednesday morning.

He says he will only make a statement to the press and won't take any questions.
