UPDATE: Police Involved Shooting 12:15 PM UPDATE: Shooting Suspect Driving Car Suspected in Wednesday Carjacking
UPDATE: DAYTON-- A teenager was shot by a Dayton  Police Officer. The shooting  happened about 10:30  Wednesday morning on Stolz Avenue,
after the teen and another young man crashed while driving a stolen car.

Police said the 17-year-old was shot in the hand and expected to survive.
Police said the teen was a passenger in a stolen  Monte Carlo.

The driver crashed into a fence on Stolz Avenue.  Police were chasing the stolen car, after the driver  wouldn't pull over for officers.
Police said the 21-year driver and the teen tried to run after  they crashed.

"The passenger emerged with a firearm in his hand, and  the officer shot one round  striking him in the hand, possibly also in the leg."
Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said.

Police said  the suspects stole the Monte Carlo from a man  in the Wendy's parking lot , Wednesday on Edwin C. Moses.
Police said  the suspects dragged the man out of his car  and beat him in the head and body with a gun.

Knowing the suspects were armed and dangerous, Oldham said  he understands why the police officer fired his weapon..

"I would've shot him too." He said.   "I think police did the right thing  because there is no telling what he was gonna do."

An  Internal Affairs investigation is also underway, which is standard  protocol for a police involved shooting.

DAYTON -- Dayton Police are telling us that as they attempted to stop a car involved in a suspected violent carjacking Wednesday, a 17-year-old suspect jumped out of the car with a gun.

He was shot twice, in the arm and leg.

Also in the car was a 21-year-old man. He was arrested without injury. Police were not injured in the shooting. As of noon Thursday, police have not indicated whether the 17-year-old suspect fired his gun or what might have prompted his shooting.

Police told Reporter Chelby Kosto, who is on the scene, that officers spotted the car involved in a violent carjacking Wednesday at a Wendy's on Edwin C. Moses Boulevard. They tried to pull the car over but the driver fled. A short chase ended on Stolz Avenue when the car crashed into a fence.

That's when the 17-year-old jumped out of the car with the gun, police say.

This is a developing story and we'll bring you the latest information as details emerge.
