CONSUMER ALERT: Beware of NCAA Ticket Scams
DAYTON -- All 10 NCAA games here in Dayton have been sold out since October, but that doesn't mean you can't still get tickets.

"We actually went to the Chicago Blackhawks game in Columbus and I got the tickets on StubHub is really cheap and really easy," said Katy Cooke from Dayton.

But cheap and easy doesn't always work out.

"One time I went to the concert and the person next to me had the same ticket," said Cooke.

"It could be a red flag if you see tickets going for very low price because typically what scam artist do is a try to make a little bit of money over a lot of people," said John North of the Better Business Bureau.

Buying and selling tickets has become a $15 billion industry nationwide but The Better Business Bureau says they get about 2,000 fraud complaints every year. Bottom line is you want to make sure you are using a secure site that is backed by the BBB.

"We know people have made some legitimate deals on Craigslist but you also have to be careful because there are no checks and balances," said North.

"It just doesn't have enough credibility on my part I'm kind of scared of Craigslist," said Cooke.

"If I was really desperate," said Mallory Hall of Dayton. "Otherwise I'd probably go to the arena. I know some people stand out there and sell tickets."

But the BBB says there is no protection with scalpers either.

"With the date so close and with the safety of knowing that you're getting what you're paying for, make sure you ask a lot of questions," said North. "Do what you can do to verify the legitimacy of the tickets you are purchasing."

If whoever you are buying your tickets from seem apprehensive or illusive, that's your first sign to walk away and you always have to ask yourself if getting a good deal is worth the possibility of not getting in at all.

Better Business Bureau tips on purchasing March Madness tournament tickets: 
·         Ask the seller where he or she is located. Also, ask how he or she can be contacted after the sale. If the seller is elusive, don't pursue the offer.
·         Never wire money or pay with a cashier's check to the seller. You'll have no way of getting your tickets or money back. Pay with a credit card or through PayPal, which will offer you some protection.
·         Look for secure Web sites when buying tickets. Look for a Web site with the padlock on the page and the letter "s" in the URL web address box. For example, the address should start with https.
·         Ask for a picture of the tickets so you can confirm the tickets match the venue if you're buying tickets online.
·         Don't be lured away from reputable Web sites to complete transactions with sellers.
·         Be wary when buying from scalpers. Buying tickets outside the venue can be a risky purchase.
