UPDATE: I-75 Southbound Reopended after 40- to 50-Vehicle Pileup
UPDATE: WARREN COUNTY -- State Troopers have reopened I-75 Southbound to traffic.  The highway was shut down at State Route 122 for three hours today after a 40-50 vehicle pile-up.

Adam Stevens says it all happened within 30 seconds.

"All of a sudden it was just a white out," he said. "You couldn't see anything you can't feet in yard in front of you. All we could see was the brake light in front of us and they started breaking so we started breaking. When we started breaking we realize that we were sliding and we couldn't stop at all because the roads are covered so quick so fast; it was just ice.

Stevens got caught in this 50 car pile up with his brother and his parents.

"All of a sudden we saw through the white, cars coming towards us and then we saw a semi truck sliding down and it just slammed us," he said. "We spun 180 and then we kept getting pummeled by like 5 or 6 more cars."

"I've seen a lot of accidents before but nothing to this scale," said Mike Vance of Dayton.

"Some car came up and side swiped me so I ended up pulling into the side of the road and there were cars getting hit left and right we ended up getting out of the car and going up on the hill," driver Kevin Kaighin said. "There was no reaction it was just instinct to get out of the way use of cars flying by going 50 miles per hour through the thick of this thing I don't know how they didn't get hit nobody could see anything."

"Visibility was down to almost 0 and you combine that with the snow covered slippery roads this is the result," said Sgt. James Russell of Ohio State Patrol.

"I thought today was going to be the day I die. My dad was actually saying a prayer the whole time it was going on," said Stevens. "It was a heart stopper you couldn't we've you couldn't do anything you just had to sit and wait that's all you could do."

Vance came to the crash looking for his son.
 
"Yeah he's in there somewhere," he said. "He messed his leg up some. He said he hit like three cars before he came to a stop."

There were no serious injuries, but about 20 people were taken to area hospitals.

WARREN COUNTY -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that between 40 and 50 vehicles were involved in a crash along I-75 southbound earlier today.

The highway could reopen in about an hour, officials are saying.

WARREN COUNTY -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it is closing I-75 southbound in Warren County at State Route 122 (Exit 32) because of multiple vehicle crashes.
