Comment: Absolutely not....and they won't because there are more sensible heads in this state. According to the FBI, there are more deaths from DUI's in the U.S. than firearms. It's time to get the automatic Toyota Camry's and the automatic Pontiac G6's with the steering wheel button for shifting manually, off the road - they are killing people when drunks drive them. WAKE UP AMERICA; these vehicles are killing people at a rate higher than guns! We better limit the MPG on these assault vehicles! The fact is, nobody is surrendering their guns, large magazines, or anything that they could use to protect their family, so keep dreaming. The ones with the clear heads understand it's all about issuing the "feel- good" action while the regime continues silently towards communism. Talk to MADD or SADD, and learn how to educate people and behavior, not objects. They have done a great service over the years, cutting in half the amount of DUI deaths. from Dayton, OH by Rob
Comment: gun laws will never keep guns from criminals or those wanting to do harm, why punish the law abiding citizens with laws that are not needed from Centerville, Oh by Jerry

Comment: I guess according to the media and our so called elected officials my rights to defend myself are not worth preserving yet they let the criminals plead the gun charges away for a guilty plea to a lesser crime so they can say we won what a farce the judicial system has become from dayton Ohio by taxpayer
Comment: no guns stop crime from miller by jerilee
Comment: The constitution is the last great hope for the FREEDOM of mankind. from Laura OH by Jack
Comment: Enforce existing laws. from West Alexandria by Bob
Comment: What part of the words shall not be infringed doesn't anyone understand .Punish criminals not law abiding citizens . Stop pushing all these psychotropic drugs on our children .Lets ban alcohol and cars more children are killed by them than lawful gun owners from dayton ohio by concerned

Comment: NO WAY! The laws on the books now work! New "Tough on guns" laws will only hurt responsible gun owners, and criminals don't care about the laws anyways! from Xenia by Christian
Comment: As a substitute teacher, I feel control of guns is the answer to school shootings. I am 61 and have never owned a gun, suggestions that I as a teacher be armed is such lunacy and would be laughable if not so tragic. from Dayton Ohio by Jacqueline
Comment: Knee-jerk reactions from ill placed fear often lead to bad laws. Mental health issues should be the focus, not creating more hurdles for law abiding citizens.
Comment: New York passes laws to control every aspect of New Yorkers lives. It's just power hungry. We should go more like Vermont has discussed from dayton/ohio by marsha
Comment: An unarmed person is victim from Kettering by Dwayne
Comment: OBTW Hunters do NOT need Assault weapons from Miamisburg/OH by Rock
Comment: Since Obama is all about fair, the same weapons which are afforded to the Secret Disservice for the protection of Obama's daughters, shall be available to me, for the protection of my daughters. It's like an equal opportunity thing. His daughters are no more worth life than mine. Besides, I'm paying for their protection while he's stripping America's right to defend it's children and families with the same means. It's time we spread the wealth, of protection that is. Fair is fair from Dayton, OH by Rob
Comment: If one passes, I will not comply. COME AND GET THEM!!! from Dayton Ohio by Patriot
Comment: Criminals dont follow laws. They prey upon the helpless using whatever tool at hand. The police are few in numbers and are there in most cases to just write a report after you have been victimized. I feel sad for the state of America! from New Lebanon Ohio by Larry
Comment: There will be no decrease in mass killings as long as automatic weapons and semi-automatics are easily available everywhere from Dayton, OH by Lawrence
Comment: We need to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. We should focus on helping those with severe mental disorders instead. from Centerville, OH by Amy
Comment: Mental health issues are far more important than gun restrictions. Leave my guns and my RIGHTS alone. from New Carlisle by Donna
Comment: Restricing guns = more crime commited against law abiding citizens. from Troy/Ohio by Tom
Comment: No absolutely not from Huber Heights by Joseph Caplinger
Comment: A little control never hurt anyone.. from Kettering Ohio by ShareLife
Comment: Not at all! It will simplly give the weapons into the hands of criminals and leave the average citizen helpless. from Lebanon, OH by Allison
Comment: No absolutely not from Huber Heights by Patricia Caplinger
Comment: We need to keep our 2nd Amendment alive and well. Banning guns is not going to solve the problem. If Obama bans them he will break the oath of office. That should be impeachable offense for not defending the Constitution of the United States of America. by Shawn
Comment: A law abiding citizen can own a race car. If 1 street races, do they take all race cars from all citizens? No. So then where does the government get off taking guns from law abiding citizens? There are a lot more kids killed street racing then in shootings. Yet, this is allowed. Though both are tragedies. The government has no right to tell a citizen what type of anything we can purchase, as long as we do not break the laws. Either cars or guns, the government is not allowed to decide for us what items we should or should not own. It is in our constitution for a reason, to prresrve the other enclosed rights. From ANYONE who should try to take them. from Fairborn, Ohio by Dale
Comment: None from bellefontaine, oh by reed
Comment: Let me put it this way, if a drunk man crashes on the highway, do we try to outlaw cars? NO we target the man not the tool. Taking away our right to own any kind of firearm(including hi capacity guns) is not going to save lives. Security saves lives. I would also like to point out that prohibition has never worked. If they want it they will get it. Yes placing armed security guards is not a perfect solution but it is far better than what Obama and friends are proposing. Why is this? Because every American was given a bill of rights, ten amendments that are considered human rights! Tampering with them in any way shape or form is an attack on our rights. I don't care about updated background checks, that's fine. But I have a right to own an AR (with a 30 round magazine) if I so desire. If you look at the revolution many of the citizens were better armed than any other army out there. The Kentucky long rifle was the height of firearm technology at that time. Its how we crushed those that oppressed us. Anyone who says that the people do not have a right to these weapons might as well be a despot. from Huber Heights, Ohio by Mathew B.
Comment: It doesnt matter about stricter gun laws. Anyone with the desire to criminally act out can find a gun. from kettering/ Oh by Jason
Comment: It is not guns that are the problem we need to address mental health issues the criminal will always get the guns even if laws are passed. from Dayton by Nancy
Comment: While as a law-abiding citizen and responsible firearms owner I am saddened by the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, I believe that efforts to impose new restrictions on millions of lawful and responsible firearms owners like me are extremely misguided. The reality for those willing to look at the facts will clearly see that violent crime with firearms has significantly declined since the Federal "assault weapons ban" expired in 2004. This reduction is in large part due to the dramatic increase of conceal carry permits throughout this great nation. In lieu of the knee jerk reaction of politicians to pile on additional restrictions on responsible citizens, the focus should be one of strengthening mental health care as well as working to enforce the more than 20,000 gun laws already on the books against the criminals who actually perpetrate the crime! from Englewood / OH by Jeff
Comment: Any Politician that supports this can guarantee they won't be elected for another term! from Urbana by Tim
Comment: NY's SAFE Act will do nothing to deter criminals. Law abiding citizen will either turn in their legally purchased property and become defenseless potential victims, or to protect themselves, they will live outside the law. Either way, the criminals, that already ignore current laws, will ignore this one too. Enforce the laws we have, don't create new ones. from Dayton by Larry
Comment: What has been done for mental ilness? from Middletown, Ohio by Adam
