Question of the Day

Will President Obama's task force come up with a sensible plan for gun control?

100% No

Comment: Joe Biden has an anti-gun record as long as anyone in Washington DC. He is not objective about the subject. His bias reflects that of the Democratic Party. Liberals can't objectively look at guns; the mental health system; or real options of arming teachers/administrators with the ability to stop an attacher. from Jamestown, OH by Larry

Comment: Not unless there is a magical mushroom he can hand out to make a change in American culture. Nearly all the gun crime is committed by people that already have records or are in a shoddy upbringing anyway. Another part of the spectrum is mental health care, parents that let the TV & video games babysit their kids. from Kettering, OH by Chris

Comment: The Democratic party wants to ban all guns and will work towards that end. from Brookville, OH by Paul

Comment: Guns, since the dawn of invention, have not yet once "killed" anyone. People with guns kill people. There are more deaths by automobile than guns, yet the government wants to control guns? I believe the government should stop wasting our money on "catch 22" situations and direct their undivided attention to the mending our economy. from Miamisburg, OH by Marty

Comment: The task force will be stacked with anti-gun members from Dayton by Don

Comment: A sensible plan? No. A political plan? Of coarse from Bellbrook,Ohio by Andy

Comment: We don't need more gun control on the legally armed populace, we need more enforcement of laws on those that have them illegally! from Fairborn by Don't

Comment: I think changing gun laws won't help. This has been a ongoing problem for way too long. I believe the teachers need to carry guns then this wouldn't happen in schools anymore. How often do bad guys walk into police stations and open fire? from DeGraff/Ohio by Joni

Comment: Guns are neither good nor bad, they are simply inanimate objects; machines. The "conversations' "presuppositions are wrong; the focus should be on violence, not the guns-- why has there been an increase in violence in our society over the decades? Let's just make violence illegal.... Guns are used more often to Save lives-- look at the facts! (Gun facts.info is a good place to start.) To outlaw guns because they are misused is akin to banning prescription medication because it is often abused and used illegally causing harm/death. To restrict firearms because they are occasionally used by criminals, is to ignore the millions of times they are used each year to save lives and protect people--most of the time a shot is never fired! The task force indicates they want to open the debate on gun control-- this indicates they want to control the guns, not truely explore ways to reduce violence. History supports citizens owning firearms as the best method to protecting the populace at large. Firearms are NOT the problem. But, they are often the solution to stopping violent behavior. So far, the task force does not indicate this will be their focus. It should be called the Violence task force; they seem to blame the guns not the killers from Eaton, OH by Steve

Comment: No. Everyone is looking at gun control as reducing the number of guns. What we need to do is give the citizens with CCW's the ability to carry their guns every where they go allowing them the ability to protect themselves and others/ from Greenville Ohio by Bruce

Comment: More laws are not needed from Dayton, OH by John

Comment: 2nd amendment allows the citizenry to protect itself from a tyranical government. It's not about hunting. Stupid violence is a price that comes with the freedoms we enjoy. You'll never have freedom without that risk...never. from Centerville by j.r.

Comment: I don't have faith in the Task Force. The main discussion is wrong from the beginning; the topic needs to be about violence prevention, not about restricting access to objects/firearms/machines. We need to address the killers. The dialogue is misguided from the start; shooters are anyone who shoots guns, this includes police, military, citizens who protect themselves from violence. When it comes to controlling objects, look at how unsuccessful other countries are at controlling guns; how successful was prohibition or our current "war on drugs?" Guns are not inherently "bad." The name on the task force indicates their disdain for these machines--if they hate them so much, take them away from their security guards, police, and our military first--of course they won't-- they know these object are excellent tools to stop crime and violence (just like most Citizens understand). They are machines that can be used for bad or good (even recreation- shooting sports are Very Popular!). Look at the facts, in the United States, guns are used more often for good purposes, rather than bad. from Eaton, OH by Debbie

Comment: no. you cant control the crazies. they will buy them on the streets or steal them if they really want one. from xenia, ohio by sandy

Comment: Sensible by whose definition? Buckeye Firearms Association and Ohio AG Mike DeWine are on the right track! from Jamestown, OH by Larry

Comment: they refuse to listen to what the people of the country ask for , they just try to push their values on everyone from willard ohio by richard
