WASTE WATCH: Too Many Stamps

WASTE WATCH -- Our Waste Watch investigation centers on the U.S. Postal Service and their love of spending on commemorative stamps.

As much as America has come to love Homer Simpson, the USPS may love him more.  In 2009, the postal service printed one billion stamps devoted to The Simpsons.  Two years later though, only one-third of those Simpsons stamps had sold.

Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma says the USPS routinely wastes millions of dollars overestimating demand for its commemorative stamps, including ones for weather vanes, aloha shirts, and the Supreme Court justices.  Those millions would come in handy for the postal service, which of course is $15 billion dollars in debt.

If you suspect local or state government waste, we'd like to investigate.  Just call our Waste Watch tip-line at 937-262-1426 or email us at wastewatch@fox45now.com.
